Who we are

Who we are

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) is South Africa’s premier accountancy body, a globally recognised institute, and an Insights-Driven Organisation (IDO). This transformation reflects our commitment to driving systemic change that is leveraged on the difference we are committed to making, fostering inclusive growth, and enabling sustainable development through ethical leadership and professional excellence.

As a voluntary, not-for-profit member organisation, SAICA operates under a member-centric constitution, with offices in Johannesburg, Bloemfontein, Cape Town, and Durban. These hubs connect us to the economic and social ecosystems where our members and associates create impact.

Our revenue is generated through membership fees, professional development programmes, strategic partnerships, and donor funding. SAICA actively contributes to global forums, shaping international standards and sharing knowledge to advance the profession worldwide.

We offer three progressive professional designations:

  • Accounting Technician [AT(SA)]
  • Associate General Accountant [AGA(SA)]
  • Chartered Accountant [CA(SA)]

These designations are governed by the SAICA Code of Professional Conduct and supported by a dynamic Continuous Professional Development framework, ensuring that our members remain ethical, competent, and future-ready.

With SAICA’s transition into an IDO, we are expanding our role beyond professional regulation to become a catalyst for economic transformation, social impact, and sustainable development. We are building bridges between the profession, society, and the broader development agenda.

Our objectives

  • Enable inclusive economic growth by equipping professionals with the skills and mindset to drive transformation and innovation.
  • Support national development priorities through strategic partnerships, thought leadership, and capacity building.
  • Empower members and associates to lead with integrity, adapt to change, and contribute meaningfully to society.
  • Advance the profession’s relevance in a rapidly evolving global landscape through digital transformation, sustainability, and ethical leadership.
  • Strengthen public trust by upholding transparency, accountability, and excellence in all we do.
  • Champion systems thinking and collaboration to address complex societal challenges and unlock shared value.

Objectives

  • Support the development of the South African economy and society
  • Promote the interests of SAICA members and associates
