Keamogetswe Macupa CA(SA), 32
Finalist: Transformative Leader | SAICA Top-35-Under-35 Awards 2025
Keamogetswe Macupa is a trailblazing Chartered Accountant (South Africa) whose leadership is transforming healthcare governance, community development, and youth mentorship in South Africa. At 32, she holds the distinction of being the first African female Principal Officer of the Impala Medical Plan — a closed scheme serving over 28,000 members across Impala Platinum’s operations in Rustenburg, Marula, Springs, and its head office.
Her journey began with a dream in Grade 9: to become a CA(SA). That dream became reality through grit, excellence, and a deep commitment to impact. Keamogetswe joined Impala Platinum Mine, where she worked as a Preferential Procurement Accountant, supporting SMMEs with compliance and financial guidance. She played a key role in the launch of the Peo ESD Fund and the Economic Inclusion Centre, helping drive inclusive growth and, enterprise and supplier development.
Her work extended into the Social Labour Plan (SLP), where she managed budgets and costs for community upliftment projects valued at over R30 million. One of her proudest moments was the handover of a clinic to the Freedom Park community — a milestone attended by Minister Gwede Mantashe, reflecting the tangible impact of her work.
In 2023, Keamogetswe was appointed Principal Officer of the Impala Medical Plan, where she led a strategic turnaround. She resolved compliance queries from the Council for Medical Schemes (CMS), strengthened governance structures, and revitalized the scheme’s brand identity — overseeing a full rebranding of its logo, colours, and positioning. Her leadership spans strategic planning, financial oversight, stakeholder engagement, and regulatory compliance.
Her influence also extended into ESG. As an ESD consultant for Impala’s Rustenburg operation, she reported on social and governance targets — aligning corporate strategy with sustainability and ethical leadership.
Beyond her corporate achievements, Keamogetswe is a passionate mentor. She supports high school learners, and APC candidates through the University of Johannesburg’s mentorship programme, offering academic guidance, emotional support, and exam preparation. Her mentorship philosophy is rooted in compassion, empowerment, and creating safe spaces for growth.
Her career is marked by a commitment to excellence, inclusion, and transformation. From auditing municipalities and government departments at the Auditor General of South Africa to leading strategic initiatives in healthcare and mining, Keamogetswe has consistently delivered impact across sectors.
She lives by the belief that “the greatest work is one that brings hope to those coming after me.” Her story is a testament to what’s possible when talent meets purpose — and when leadership is used to uplift, inspire, and create lasting change.
As a Transformative Leader, Keamogetswe Macupa is not just breaking barriers — she’s building bridges. Her legacy is one of service, vision, and empowerment, lighting the way for future generations of Chartered Accountants and young women across South Africa.
