Gail Mokwatlo
Finalist: SAICA Trainee Trailblazer Awards 2025
Gail Mokwatlo is a third-year CA(SA) trainee at Forvis Mazars South Africa whose leadership is rooted in purpose, compassion, and community transformation. Her journey reflects a deep commitment to sustainable social change, particularly through education, gender equity, and youth empowerment.
Born and raised in Limpopo, Gail’s passion for impact began early. In 2018, as Miss Limpopo, she spearheaded the creation of a R1.2 million bursary fund, enabling 20 learners from her home province to access tertiary education. She also launched childhood literacy initiatives, establishing libraries in rural crèches and facilitating reading programmes — laying the foundation for lifelong learning in underserved communities.
Today, Gail continues to lead with heart and vision. She is a founding member of Meend, a youth-led non-profit organisation focused on shifting the national dialogue around Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF). Recognising the need for inclusive solutions, Meend works to rehabilitate and morally regenerate men through active social structures, while empowering women through education and financial literacy. Gail’s leadership ensures that Meend’s programmes are both restorative and preventative — addressing root causes and building pathways to freedom and dignity.
At Forvis Mazars, Gail is an active member of the Monarchs CSR Committee, where she drives women-focused initiatives that uplift and support vulnerable communities. Her work bridges corporate responsibility with grassroots impact, using her voice and influence to make tangible change — one life, one community at a time.
Gail’s approach to sustainability is holistic. She believes that poverty cannot be eradicated without economic empowerment, and that education is the most powerful tool for transformation. Her initiatives reflect this belief, combining strategic thinking with empathy and action.
Her nomination is supported by a track record of excellence, authenticity, and service. Whether mentoring students, hosting literacy drives, or designing GBVF interventions, Gail consistently demonstrates what it means to be a trailblazer — someone who leads with courage, uplifts others, and builds systems that outlast her.
Gail Mokwatlo is a shining example of values-led leadership. Her work embodies the spirit of the Social & Sustainability Impact Award, proving that even as a trainee, one can drive meaningful change, challenge societal norms, and inspire a more equitable future.
