Pretoria District Golf and Padel Tennis Day – 23 July
Woodhill Golf Course, Pretoria, in-person
Get ready for an exhilarating day of friendly competition and networking at the Pretoria District Golf and Padel Tennis Day at the beautiful Woodhill Golf Course.
Experience the thrill of padel tennis in the Americano Format. Each participant will play with every other participant, gathering points by winning individual matches. Alternatively, compete for the Willem Kruger Trophy in our Better Ball Stableford golf format. Teams will compete for top positions in the Fourball Alliance, with incredible prizes for the top three teams!

West Rand District Park Run Community
West Rand district association members are excited to invite all West Rand members (members from other districts welcome too!) to join them for a monthly Parkrun. This is a fantastic opportunity to network with fellow professionals in a relaxed and healthy environment. A West Rand District Parkrun Community has been created on WhatsApp wherein all information pertaining to the monthly parkruns is communicated. SAICA would like to highlight some member-led initiatives in the region that members are welcome to join.
- JRA tax discussion group - meeting usually once a month with tax practitioners and accountants to keep up to date with the latest tax developments, discuss challenges, give tips and hear from professionals throughout the tax arena. Meetings are hybrid, on MS teams or at the SAICA office in Illovo. Email Tzippy Subotsky to receive the meeting invitation on ***@hjoel.com.
- JHB SMP discussion group - meeting usually once a quarter, to keep up to date with practice information, namely SAICA updates, accounting, tax and secretarial, and assurance. Tips and challenges within the profession, leading to support within SMP environment are discussed. The discussion group is specifically designed for SMP partners and managers. Meetings are held on MS Teams. Email Tzippy Subotsky to receive the meeting invitation on ***@hjoel.com.
2025 event highlights
Limpopo District Ethics Day - 14 March
Polokwane, in-person
Roelita Cloete, SAICA Project Director: Learning and Development, and Mario Fazekas, Certified Fraud Examiner discussed various aspects of ethics, including personal ethics, business ethics and professional ethics; and common challenges and how to address these.
The first session, focused on ethics for trainees, was facilitated by Roelita Cloete, Ethics Unplugged: Cracking the Code.
The second session, presented by Mario Fazekas, was aimed at all members as well as trainees, The 7 Deadly Workplace Sins: Navigating Ethical Pitfalls.
Members and trainees stayed for the networking session, which was enjoyed by all.




Pretoria members under-35 breakfast - 17 March
Members in Pretoria gathered for a delightful breakfast, providing a relaxed setting to reconnect and catch up, and engage with the Pretoria District’s Chairperson, Nkateko Mathebula, and the SAICA Northern Region’s Regional Executive, Ciara Reintjes. The engaging morning saw professionals sharing insights on industry matters alongside personal experiences, fostering a vibrant and informative atmosphere.
The breakfasts meet-ups are approximately every quarter.

The Future of Tax – AI and Expert Insights
Lisa Kahanovitz, Project Director: Tax Guidance at SAICA, gave an update on the Financial Action Task Force, changes to the beneficial owner, country by country and third party reporting.
Mark Silberman, CA(SA), spoke on how SARS and AI are transforming the tax landscape and its implications on tax practices. He further demonstrated how an ACCFIN tool has been used to address some challenges, bringing solutions to the tax space. Sincere gratitude to both speakers for sharing insights with our members and to all the members for showing up and engaging on these interesting topics.





Lowveld District Post-budget Tax and Economic Update – 26 March
Rebuilding Together: From Planning to Progress
SAICA tax experts Pieter Faber and Lesedi Seforo presented a comprehensive review of the proposed budget tabled by the Minister of Finance, detailing changes to expect and their impact on taxpayers under the theme "Rebuilding Together: From Planning to Progress". A key part of the discussion was Ntombi Mbele-Thomo's keynote address on South Africa's economic outlook and the likely effects that it will have on the economy.

2024 event highlights
Vaal District Coffee Conversation – Embracing AI – 30 October
Enjoyable and relaxed, but mostly educational and inspirational: SAICA Vaal District event on "Embracing AI: Working With, Not Against Technology" held at the North West University's Vanderbijlpark Campus recently.
Dr Craig Wing again imparted his comprehensive knowledge on the topic, for which he recently obtained his PhD!
The SAICA Team was joined by staff and leadership from the campus's staff, and many students, trainees, and SAICA members.
Thanks again to the Vaal District chairperson and members for hosting this event.
JHB Coffee Conversation, The Power of Two: Mastering Leadership and Embracing AI – 18 October
As promised, this innovative session highlighted practical examples of using artificial intelligence to address business challenges and insights into the future of leadership.
Thanks to industry experts Dr Craig Wing and Buyani Zwane for sharing imparting their knowledge and connecting with our members and associates.






West Rand District hiking and family day - 5 October
We hosted a successful West Rand District hiking and family day at the scenic Cradle Moon Game Lodge, on Saturday, 5 October.
It was a privilege to witness such an energetic and positive gathering, where members, associates, and children came together to connect and reflect amidst nature's beauty!

Pretoria District Golf and Padel Tennis Day - 26 September
The event held at Woodhill Country Club was amazing, attracting participants of various skill levels, and generating a lively atmosphere.
Players showcased their talent and engage in friendly competition. Padel tennis matches were organised in Americano format, allowing participants to build connections with fellow sports enthusiasts.
Congratulations to all the winners and a special mention goes to Max and Michael Mervitz who won the Chartered Accountants Better Ball Stableford prize. Paul Wombo won first prize for padel tennis.
We cannot wait for the next one!

Congratulations to all of our members and associates. Welcome to the home of #DifferenceMakers! Our sincere thanks go out to Boitumelo Kuzwayo CA(SA) for being such an excellent host.

Wits Margo Steele School of Accountancy’s Prize Giving
The SAICA Northern Region recently had the privilege of attending and sponsoring the Wits Margo Steele School of Accountancy’s Prize Giving, held on 17 May 2024. It was an absolute pleasure awarding the Chartered Accountants prizes and the Top Bachelor of Accounting Science prizes to the top-performing students. It is wonderful to see so much talent, and wishing all the students all of the very best for their future in the Chartered Accountancy profession. See photos of the event here.

Northern Region Council
The primary role of the regional council is to facilitate the active participation of members in regional, functional and technical committees, and to work in conjunction with the regional office of the Institute to implement national strategy through facilitating appropriate activities at a regional and district level, including networking, knowledge sharing and social and community-based activities.
