Mother Tongue Intellect

Pheliswa Msele

Mother Tongue Intellect seeks to address the challenges around inclusivity created by language, while also moving African narratives to the forefront of the global knowledge database.

This is important because while African children may dream of becoming entrepreneurs, scientists and engineers, they are often unable to study the relevant information in their own mother tongue. This places them at a significant advantage.

Furthermore, global examples of leaders in these fields focus predominantly on individuals from Europe or the United States, resulting in a dearth of African role models.

MTI addresses these issues by producing content across four key areas (business and finance, science and tech, climate and environment and literature, culture and myths) in Zulu, Swahili and English, while also launching impact projects that address common challenges within these focus areas.
