SAICA Enterprise Development

SAICA Enterprise Development houses strategic Enterprise and Supplier (ESD) programmes and customised projects in order to grow South Africa’s entrepreneurial sector through advancing the sustainable growth of small Black-owned businesses.

"As two thirds of SMMEs in South Africa typically close due to financial reasons, we exist to build Financial Excellence in SMMEs to reverse that trend." – CEO, Annie McWalter

Our Story

SAICA Enterprise Development aims to grow South Africa's entrepreneurial ecosystem through advancing the sustainable growth of small Black businesses, which in turn will create employment opportunities.

SAICA Enterprise Development (SAICA ED) offers Financial Excellence to SMMEs through all SAICA designations. SAICA ED thus partners with SAICA-associated Small and Medium Practices (SMPs) and other groupings within SAICA to achieve Financial Excellence in both Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and entrepreneurial incubators nationwide.

Key strategic intent

To enhance the value of the Chartered Accountancy profession by mobilising its contribution to SMME development through developing Financial Excellence in entrepreneurs through:

  • Financial bootcamps
  • Financial coaching
  • Affordable accounting services (using unemployed accounting graduates)
  • Developing Financial Excellence reporting standards

The SMPs will oversee the books of the accounting graduates and their SMME clients. These accounting graduates are eligible for the Accounting Technician membership, which is a designation of SAICA.

SAICA ED was formed in 2017 in order to house all of the Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programmes and projects which were previously done by The Hope Factory. Socio-Economic Development (SED) as well as Skills Development (SD) remains housed under The Hope Factory.
