Baliswa Mbana-Gantsho CA(SA)

Baliswa is a financial professional who qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2014 after completing her articles with the office of the Auditor General of South Africa in the Eastern Cape. She has 13 years of managerial / professional experience (both private and public sector), and has obtained professional and technical skills in leadership, corporate governance, risk management, technical advisory, client relationship management skills.

Baliswa worked in the office of the AGSA since 2009 and moved up the ranks and became an audit manager and technical manager, until 2018 where she left the office for local government experience. Her clients at the AGSA were mainly public sector clients (Provincial Departments, Public Entities, Municipalities and Municipal entities), where she obtained deeper understanding of the public sector, i.e Provincial and Local government spheres.

Baliswa has working experience of local government sphere, as she previously worked as a Senior Manager Contracts Management for Chris Hani District Municipality since February 2018, who later served as a Chief Financial Officer for Port st Johns Local Municipality since March 2020. She is currently the Chief Financial Officer for the Elundini Local Municipality, a position she held since March 2024 and her role is to provides strategic direction to the department, financial management and strengthening financial governance, etc.

Baliswa also worked at National Treasury under GTAC as MFIP Technical Advisor, a position she held since November 2023, where she assisted municipalities in the Eastern Cape with unfunded budgets, Eskom debt relief applications and monitoring its implementation thereof, implementation of financial recovery plans, annual financial statements reviews, etc.

Baliswa has six (6) years of experience serving in Council/ Board committees (various Municipalities, public entities and TVET College), and her entities have achieved clean audits, unqualified and qualified audit opinions. She is a registered member of South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IoDSA) and a member of the Public Sector Accounting Forum for the Accounting Standards Board (ASB) and Regional Committee member of Thuthuka Alumni Community (TAC).
