Eduvos’ Bachelor of Accounting degrees receives accreditation to deliver Associate General Accountants

When it comes to addressing South Africa’s scarce-skills shortage, SAICA prides itself on accrediting education programmes which enable higher education students access to SAICA’s membership benefits via a variety of qualification routes.

Recently, this accounting body added another point of entry into its diverse offerings when it confirmed that students studying a BCom Accounting degree at four of Eduvos’ contact campuses in Bedfordview, Midrand, Pretoria and Tyger Valley now have the opportunity to become AGAs(SA).

Robert Zwane, SAICA’s Executive Director for Learning, Development and National Imperatives explains:

‘There is global consensus that belonging to a professional body adds to your employability because it shows that you have qualified through a trusted, well-regulated, rigorous education and assessment process and are serious about your career and professional development. Now, because Eduvos has gained AGA accreditation for its BCom Accounting degree, those who study this degree have the chance to align their career trajectory with one of the world’s leading accounting institutes - SAICA.’

The accreditation is effective for all students who enrolled in Eduvos’ BCom Accounting programme from January 2022 and are studying at either Eduvos’ Bedfordview, Midrand, Pretoria or Tyger Valley campuses.

What is an AGA(SA)?

The primary role of an AGA(SA) is to enhance, drive and measure organisational value thanks to their broad, future-focused, multi-disciplinary approach to driving operational performance. As associate members of SAICA, they are required to comply with the SAICA Code of Professional Conduct and act ethically as well as undertake ongoing and relevant learning activities that contribute towards their ongoing professional competence and ensure that they remain up to date with the skills needed to match those required in an ever evolving business world. This is a win for both the associate member and the organisations they serve.

What does the accreditation mean for Eduvos?

‘To gain SAICA accreditation, higher education providers must undergo a rigorous and extensive process to ensure that their programme has the necessary resources in place to deliver a high quality programme leading to an AGA(SA) designation. These quality assurance processes are undertaken in addition to the formal regulatory accreditation requirements of the DHET, CHE and SAQA which need to be in place before getting the SAICA stamp of approval. Having undergone the formal accreditation process, we are confident that Eduvos BCom Accounting degree is backed by the necessary resources to meet SAICA’s standards. On behalf of the institution, we congratulate Eduvos on this achievement,’ explains Zwane adding that Eduvos is also currently in the process of finalising their accreditation for their distance mode BCom Accounting degree, which upon CHE accreditation will make it the first non-contact accredited AGA(SA) education provider in the country.

‘I am excited to be part of this new chapter in the life of Eduvos.  Our accreditation status and partnership with the prestigious SAICA will give our Commerce students an added advantage in a highly competitive world,’ adds Dr Dave Naidoo, Eduvos Registrar.
