Flood Rescue Assistance programme

With the recent flooding affecting areas in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Eastern Cape and other parts of the country, the SAICA Board and its staff send their condolences to members and associates who have lost loved ones and express their sympathies to all who have been affected by the loss or damage to their personal property and / or businesses as a result of this natural disaster.

As a membership body, SAICA prides itself on being part of a community that rallies behind the nation in times like these. It is for this reason that SAICA is reopening the SAICA Business Emergency Rescue (BER) initiative, which we launched last year in response to the unrest experienced in South Africa. The BER exists to find ways in which SAICA and the profession can assist members and associates with advice, expertise and services to rebuild their businesses as well as help those affected deal with the emotional and mental distress that comes from this unfortunate event.

The campaign is called the SAICA Difference Makers: Business Emergency Flood Rescue Assistance programme, and while we look forward to sharing more detail of our actions, the plan as it currently stands includes, amongst others, the following:

  1. A short Flood Recovery Assistance survey. We encourage all members and associates who have been affected by the floods to complete this survey in order for us to understand the type of business support that is needed so that we can better consolidate SAICA’s relief support efforts.
  2. SAICA has once again partnered with Gift of the Givers to provide an opportunity for members, their organisations as well as SAICA staff to contribute financially towards the relief efforts aimed at assisting those affected by the floods. SAICA has engaged Gift of the Givers in this regard to facilitate a more streamlined and direct process of administrating the welfare fund and members and associates can make a contribution directly to Gift of the Givers through:

    Gift of the Givers
    Standard Bank, Pietermaritzburg
    Branch code: 057525
    Account number: 052137228
Kindly use the following reference number: SAICA/BER

You can send your deposit slip to donations@giftofthegivers.org for a S18A tax deductible certificate.
  1. We also urge and encourage all our members and associates to join SAICA’s existing community group on the Telegram Messenger application where members can connect with one another to ask for and offer advice and support as needed. If you haven’t already done so, please download the app and join this group (details on how to do so appear at the bottom of this communication).

Further information will be provided on the outcome of the survey and other matters as these become available.

Thank you in advance to all our members and associates who are stepping up to help. We appreciate your dedication to the well-being of not only our fellow South Africans but also the economy.
